Ike Turner is my guitar hero!

I've been Jonesin' for another one of these ever since I had to sell my first one (along with a bunch of my other PRIMO guitars and amps) a few years back to pay for my mother's funeral.

One of my long-time jam buddies told me that it (the one I had to sell) was one of the finest-sounding electrics he had ever heard.

Just got my shipping notice, and it should be here tomorrow. Needless to say......I'm pretty stoked!

Check this little sweetie out!

I was wondering why you said it was one of the sweetest sounding electrics. Then I noticed it has 57 classics. "Nuff said! ;)
Hope it's everything you expect it to be!

But again.......if I had one of the original prototypes........it would stay in a safe......they must be literally worth a small fortune....

Last time I was in Dave's Guitar Shop and bought the Es-Les Paul VOS Goldtop in December, Dave showed me his original Gibson Explorer....and told me that it was easily worth $700,000.

So, I wonder how much one of the original 6 Moderne prototypes would be worth.....

Having said that, I'm a PLAYER, NOT a guitar investor/speculator.

I buy my guitars to PLAY!

Cool! Definitely a rare guitar with a mysterious history, even though this is a reissue.

I have promised myself that, when one of the Dillions pops up on Reverb again, I will not hesitate.

If Gibson made a lefty I would probably bite.

Cool guitar.

About 40 years ago I saw an Ibanez Moderne copy in a local guitar store. I liked it a lot, but had neither the funds or the sense to buy it at the time :-(

I was tempted by one of those when they were announced, but ...then the 2019 DCs showed up out of nowhere.

There have been a few Modernes pop up that were claimed to be originals, but they all turned out to be forgeries.

A real one would probably fetch close to $2M at auction.

You DESERVE an Ibanez Iceman!

So why is the Gibson made of mahagony and the Epiphone model is made of korina?

And why is the other color 'aged cherry' instead of the classic black?

I almost got one of these when they re-issued them in 2012, but job insecurity kept me from pulling the trigger. And I've gotten other items since then (Iceman, Warmoth). Maybe, when they reissue the NEXT time, I'll get one...

I am tempted by the korina Epi. I just sold a guitar so I can buy another.

If Epiphone would make us one I’d be all over that and call it good.

The next Dillion I see listed is mine.

AMS has the Epi version on sale. It's korina. They also have the Gibson version, but not in Korina, and 3 times as much.

OK, I got mine. I am pleasantly surprised by the fit and finish of this Epi. It's better than the Gibson Goldtop LP I bought recently. I'll write a short review after I plug it in and play it.

I can find no defects. The hardware is solid. The assembly is great. The action height, relief, and intonation is good. Low action with no buzzing. The frets are finished nicely, with not too much fret end bevel. There is a hair extra clearance from board edge on the treble side, which I like. The strings traverse centered with the markers and pole pieces. The Pau Ferro fingerboard is fine. It is very light (6.5 lbs), on par with my lightest (Casino, 6.4 lbs). Tuners are solid without backlash. Fun to play. I think I'll go plug in, crank it up, and play some Albert King licks.
Rainboguy, I'd be interested in the quality of the Gibson model if you'd care to comment.

I'll add: the fitted case is nice. It weighs 16.5 pounds tho! I'll need a chainfall to move it!
