FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Stratocasters / Vintage strat ID (Paul McCartney's)

Sir Paul is usually more of a Gibson guy, but he does have a brown sunburst Stratocaster. These are the only photos I've ever seen of it. Are there enough details available to get an idea as to the year? It's pretty beat-up so my guess is it's a vintage instrument.

From what I know about it, it's a 1960 Strat. Quite rare and valuable.

And not just because it has superstar provenance; it's a lefty. Not many lefties were made in the early 1960s.

Peegoo, do you know any more about this instrument? I find it odd that it's rarely seen or mentioned, compared to Paul's other instruments. I've never found anything more on it, outside of the photos I linked.

Cool pics, never seen that before. I'm guessing being a billionaire, Sir Paul has a bunch of guitars flying in and out of his inventory.

Paul was never a Strat fan. During the Beatles days he had a lefty Fender Esquire. I'm pretty certain he got the Strat during his Wings days.

Plenty of mentions of Harrison and Lennon Strats in Andy Babiuk's book "Beatles Gear," but nothing about a McCartney Strat. However, that book only covers the period up through 1970. This leads me to believe that PG is correct, and that any McCartney Strat came after the Beatles had disbanded.
