FDP Forum / Fender Amps: Vintage (before 1985) / Fender non reverb distorting at 4

Mar 24th, 2019 09:18 AM   Edit   Profile

hello. I just bought a 67 deluxe non reverb. It sounded great for the first couple of days but now it distorts at 3 or 4. All the caps in the amp have been replaced, I tried different speakers and I tried both vintage and current tubes in all the positions. If anybody has any idea what is going on, I'd appreciate you thoughts. I'm planning on taking it a tech tomorrow, but if anyone knows a quick fix, please send it my way.
thank you

Just a basic question. Are the preamp tubes in the right positions? Specifically the phase inverter, which I beleive should be a 12AT7. Just guessing as I don’t have a diagram in front of me.

Have all the electrolytic caps been updated? Have you checked the bias on the output tubes?
