You can hear just one note on a record and you know it's Sonny.

He has such a singular style and technique; nobody can get the sounds he gets with a slide. His right hand style is also very unique.

It's all finesse and years of experience...

I'm a big fan of his playing and have at least 4 of his albums. He's also a pretty good singer.

His technique is very innovative and is constantly evolving.

I can play slide, but Landreth's playing is in a whole another, higher dimension!

Concur:

This video is not the greatest but I think it shows him at full throttle

My first thought,'Wow! Who is this guy?...How does he do that? and Why isn't he more famous?'

Second thought--I would give my right youknowwhat for that rhythm section behind me.

I've heard him a bunch but never pursued any of his recordings - what album would you suggest as a good start?

South of I-10 is a good one to start with.

Also, any of John Hyatt's stuff with his band The Goners (Slow Turning, etc.).

Used to see him in south Louisiana back in the early 1980's with Little Queenie and the Percolators. He was a monster back then!
