FDP Forum / Guitar Mods, Repairs, and Projects / Fender Twin Reverb Reissue Hiss

All Five Fingers

Hi everyone.

I'm losing my marbles over my TRRI. It Hisses quietly with all the settings down, but as I turn up either volume, it hisses louder. Until at 10. then its quiet again.

This is all tested without a guitar plugged in.

Tried replacing the preamps with two new tubes but it makes no difference. When I run it with no tube one by one, it will still hiss. Unless its a tube that kills the signal for the channel. The other still hisses the same. None of the power tubes are microscopic as far as I can tell. I've also tried removing the reverb plate but it doesn't make any difference.

I took a look inside to see if anything was loose, but it shouldn't be as its only a few years old. Cleaned all the pots and jacks.

The last thing is that when I have the reverb pan plugged in and OFF with the footswitch, I accidently bumped the amp. I heard the spring rattle through the speakers. Shouldn't the off switch kill the signal to the pan completely?

That's about it. I will have to bring it into a tech soon cause I have grey hairs popping up from this. The fact that both channels respond to the hiss the same makes me think its past the preamp channel. But I'm just a rookie at amp repair.
Any ideas? Thanks.
