I don't get out much
May 16th, 2019 06:56 PM   Edit   Profile

About five weeks ago I invested in a small Chauvet hazer.
Before buying, I asked the Sweetwater folks if the wee hazer I was interested in was as mechanically robust as their larger hazers.
Sweetwater guy said yes so I bought the hazer and a jug of Chauvet water based haze fluid.
The hazer works great and easily gets the job done.
Only concern I had was that the hazer goes through a lot of fluid.
My estimate is that a one gallon jug is good for about 10 four hour shows.
As I was about to run out of fluid, I bought a gallon of what was available locally.
Fluid is an Ultratec product they call LUMINOUS 7 HAZE.
OK....there's the preamble.
Last Friday, I left the gig without shutting off the hazer.....spot the moron. Hazer ran itself dry.
Refilled the tank with the Luminous 7 fluid and hit the go button.
Room filled with haze even when the hazer was set to it's lowest output setting.
No haze on Saturday.
Today, after asking some local lighting techs if it would be a bad idea to try and dilute the new fluid (they thought it couldn't hurt), I armed myself with a gallon of distilled water and had a go at things.
Started with a one to one ratio....haze fluid to distilled water....nope....WAY too much haze.
Two to one....nope.
Three to one...nope.
Five to one...nope.
At five to one, I figured the unit may be buggered, or the water and haze fluid would not jive....haze fluid sinks to the bottom...rats.
I carried on.
Eight to one...nope.
Twelve to one...nope.
Fourteen to one...BINGO.
So....if you are sick of paying way to much for haze fluid....buy the good stuff and dilute it.
The gallon of what I have may out live me.
Sorry for the long post...perhaps this information will help some of you "haze types"
Only drag is that the goop has to be pre mixed before filling the tank.
cheers

It's even cheaper if you buy glycerine and distilled water separately and make your own fog juice. If you run a lot of fog--that's the way to go.

The fog, in here, is burning my eyes.

Is it supposed to do that?

"What are all these empty Doritos bags?"

Don't have a clue what you are referring to.

I do not huff haze fluid and, if I did, I would not use a Doritos bag....not my bag of choice.

cheers

Roly, we were poking fun at musicians in general--haze in the air could be from a fog machine, or burning herbal material, or both.
