Esquires have great tonal options. Full forward is a tone rolled off kind of woman tone. Middle operates in a normal tele bridge fashion with tone control, and all the way back takes the tone control out of the circuit so it's wide open.

I need to build an esquire.

"I need to build an esquire."

Yes, everybody needs one, but they may not have to go off the deep end like I did!

There is also the Eldred model that offers a "cocked wah" position. I bought a whole control assembly with that mod from a member here years ago. Kinda cool but ultimately I couldn't hang with the whole Esquire thing. They're fine, if you add a neck pickup. 😎

And now I see mroulier post already references the Eldred mod.

Would love to see a Squier classic vibe Esquire come out.

All it takes is one of these (link), a screwdriver, a blank pickguard, couple of cheap electronic parts and a soldering iron. ;-)

Good suggestion Tony F. I would buy one and throw in the Eldred mod.

I would keep the neck pup, and add a 5 way switch, or 6 way, or ??

I would follow TE's suggestion and scribble in an "e" with a gold sharpie. ESquier.

That is FUNNY! I may steal that!

If it were possible to make the original concept of Fender's Marauder guitar work, you could bury a stealth pickup in the neck position and have a Telecaster in Esquire livery.

The original eye-deer: Marauder, with three concealed pickups

The back position is great for those Pete Townsend rhythm bits. That one last chord at the end of Squeezebox with a hardy shake. Wonderful stuff!
I wired my psuedo-56 parts-o-Esquire with the original switch circuit, but I'm wondering if the forward position would be a bit more useable if I used a resistor of a different value for more treble, less woof.
