If you're in the business, it may make sense if they're the only place you can get the thing you need.

But generally, the exact same stuff sold by Stooge Mac can be bought from other vendors (LMI, McMaster Carr, etc.) for less $$.

Stooge Mac also overcharges on shipping. Paying up front for an Amazon Prime-like program when you rarely need stuff is wasted money.

I anticipated a busy year for random stuff; finishing supplies, tools, replacement burrs, etc. With their shipping charges I figured it may be worth it, assuming I stick with SM for these items.

I’m in my second year of StewMax. I also try to anticipate and buy stuff on-sale. I still buy parts elsewhere on occasion. But SM gets a lot of business from me.

But I don’t have a problem and I can stop any time. 😋

There are some supplies from them I use on a continual basis as they are depleted so it makes sense for me...

They definitely overcharge on their shipping. Many times I've left feedback about using USPS flat rate shipping to no avail.

That’s why I jumped on their StewMax program. Free shipping - and it’s 2 day shipping to me. They also have members-only sales every once in a while. I use StewMac enough that it made sense to sign up for this. I’ve bought parts and tools on sale through the program too. I know they’re expensive. Especially their tools. That’s why I buy on-sale. And I only have to buy the tool once.

All that said, I like StewMac and I support them with my $. I don’t want a world without them.

It took 4 weeks for my last order to arrive up here in the Great White North. Can you say snail mail.

Truthfully I haven't tried many other suppliers. I'm not in business, but I have a herd and love managing it and torturing it with mad experiments. My "wishlist" is populated with things like fret pullers, nippers, fret erasers, shields, cauls, Parson Street buckers, rattle cans, etc. Buying them on sale and/or onesie-twosie can get pricey with shipping.

I did actually buy some Jescar stainless steel fretwire from Philadelphia Lutherie to have on hand should the itch become unbearable, so I'm not opposed to using other suppliers. But I like SM.

Sharkie, I get my SM orders here in about 3 days. Faster than anything I order with the exception of some Amazon prime stuff that ships from a local warehouse. It's a big reason I like them. I can see international shipping being a pain.

^^ Stew shipped it FedEx International Mail. After a few weeks I called to inquire and apparently it went from the border to a distribution facility in Quebec! From there —> Canada Post.
I like their products but that was a bit of a gong show.

FedEx may be the common denominator. My prescription eye drops recently went from New Jersey to Orlando (90 miles away) then scanned in next at Charles DeGaulle airport in France. Buttheads.

Oh, this so brings to mind the Letterkenny episode of the gang ice fishing in Quebec, lol.

BTT. I have a neck caul, fret erasers and fret shields on the way from StoogyMac.

I have CraveTV now so I should check out Letterkenny.

Taking the plunge (newbie) on doing some of my own guitar work, so I purchased the 3M polishing paper (and fingerboard guards) as opposed to the fret erasers. I hope it works.

I tend to buy in bursts with long lulls in between, so it hasn't made sense to go for StewMax yet. I've been using Philadelphia Luthier Tools a lot. Good selection, better prices, quick and lower cost shipping. No association, just FYI.
