That's right. Boston's more than a feeling.

Finally, the song we've all been waiting for.

Great series

I bought the 7” single from my mate’s dad’s record shop when it was released back in ‘76 (?) after hearing it on the radio ;-)

Cool thanks for a new rabbit hole “o)

I’ve kind of thought that about “She’s not Their” and “We’ve Got to Get Out of this Place”. I just like the bass lines”.

Wow, so many little bits in this tune I never really noticed before! Genius recording, song writing, arranging, playing, and singing!

I watched this last night. I'll return to it in a day or two.

The bass playing and production on this tune are superb.

So are the vocals (RIP Brad) and everything else!

Just a magic song. Literally everything came together. The stars aligned. Brad Delp was superhuman. Scholz amazing.

I'm surprised Rick didn't tell the interesting clandestine recording story to do with this album and the union laws. I'll try to find it and post it here.

Basically, the Columbia label had a rule that if work for an album on their label was being done outside a Columbia studio and within 250 miles(radially speaking, of course) that a union engineer had to be present, even if he sat there and did little more than crap on your EQ technique.

So the producer devised a plan to allow Sholz to keep working in his basement(who himself would have had a fit if another engineer was involved) while Delp recorded vocals in some big studio to appease the bean counters.

Boston recording fiasco

GREAT article!

"The interesting thing is that Tom had decided he wanted it to fade in with the acoustic guitars, and that kind of fools radio station compressors into thinking it's a quiet song, so they don't latch on to it right away."

Genius. Makes the tune play really loud!

I already knew the song was great, why should I listen to this schmuck?

Seriously, should I really check out this video or any of his 100 others? The mere premise bothers me, but I COULD get over it with some encouragement. (:oD

Only youtube channel I subscribe to.

I've watched a dozen or so of the "What Makes This Song Great" videos, and they've all been excellent. I've no idea of his background but I find him to be knowledgeable, engaging and super enthusiastic. 👍👍

I haven't actually watched the "More than a Feeling" video ;-)

But....... his Beatles "The End" tutorial is superb. I would never have worked out that last guitar part on my own. :-)

If you are interested the engineering and production of songs as well as some music theory. the videos are worth watching.

Depending on how much you already know you may learn a thing or two.

I recommend it.

Being introduced to the drum fill terminology "Pat Boone Debby Boone" was worth the watch, hah.

I've watched half way through twice, keep getting interrupted, but I think this is fun stuff.

Okay I STAND CORRECTED, that was pretty darn cool!

It's hard to decide which is better: the song's production, the musical execution, or the vocals, or Beato's unadulterated enthusiasm over this stuff.

Can you tell he loves his work?

Does he have access to the multitracks or is he some how stripping the 2 track with eq?
