I found a ASAT Classic on Reverb from a shop - listed cheap. I tossed an offer and they took it.

What was wrong with with? The bridge was mounted crooked. I removed the bridge, doweled the holes and redrilled them. You could never tell now.

I also ended up swapping out the switch and pots. I rewired the original pots, first, but they were crap-tastic. While I was in it, I just installed new pots and a CRL switch.

The MFD pickups are cool. They are underwound with bigger magnets. Or, at least, that's how they measure and look. They seem a bit hi-fi, but in a good way. I like them both clean and with overdrive.

Is that a USA, or Tribute model?
Regardless, even the Tributes are excellent guitars.

The MFD pickups are a great example of how DCR does not reflect output. They read quite low (4 to 5k-ish) but are pretty hot. They definitely have a unique sound. Like you said, in a good way.
I found they sound best set lower than you’d expect. Kind of like how they recommend setting up Texas Specials.

Congrats on the score!

It’s a Tribute. I doubt a US model would have had the build error this one did.

I haven’t played with pickup height yet. Thanks for the tip!

Your pic looks more brownish than the orange/amber ala other pics I've seen of this model. Is it accurate?

It’s orange. That might be the effect of the walls in that room.

Fair point. I'm actually surprised it got out the door regardless. The Indonesian-made guitars I've seen have all been very good quality, but I guess they do have Friday afternoons and Monday mornings there too ;^P

Yeah, and the string holes were drilled right. They were just drilled bigger so they would still line up with the crooked bridge.

It’s right as rain and none’s the wiser.

Except you’d guys. 😉
