FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / Telecaster MIJ Serial Number Question

Mark Curtis

I have a MIJ Telecaster Custom with a serial # C-62B/EX. The date stamp on the neck (inside the cavity) shows "Oct '96" but that serial # doesn't match anything I've seen listed on the Fender or other sites for MIJ guitars from that year. Does anyone know whether this is a valid # or do I have some kind of fake neck on this guitar?

I'm pretty sure that's a model number.

Any idea where the serial number would be - there's nothing I can find anywhere else on the neck or in the neck to body joint. Maybe in the pickup cavity?

I have a few MIJ Teles and they all have the serial number stamped in the bridge plate between the pickup and the saddles.

If yours doesn't have that, perhaps it was replaced at some point.

Nicoma Park, OK.

Many of them have the serial number located under the MIJ/CIJ sticker near the neck/body joint.

The serial number label is a decal/sticker that can easily removed.

"stamped in the bridge plate..." D'oh! Yep, there it is. This is why I'm not allowed to handle sharp objects.
