Oh yeah...if you do go with the cutting mat option and you roll it up for storage, roll it with the top facing out.

That keeps the ends from curling upward and making you crazy when you are using it.

Get one larger than you think you'll need (24" wide, minimum). You'll thank me later :o)

I was once pretty darn good at it but after a multi-year layoff I was generally disgusted with my last effort. It got the job done but, mercy me, the word sanitary does not come to mind.

I was once qualified to solder aircraft components and was good enough to be selected to train others. I don't think my solder work is of the same quality that it used to be but I can still see good enough to modify my guitars. At least for now. I used to fix amps and pedals that other people had given up on. Though in recent years I have burnt up some traces on a few circuit cards.

I'm a regular soldering-iron jockey. Or is that a flux-core technician?

Anyway, I think I do a pretty good job of putting things together and avoiding cold-solder joints. And having worked as an electrician for many years, I have a high respect for the hazards and am pretty good about basic trounbleshooting.

I just don't know a heckofalot about 'lectronics, so my work is more the paint-by-numbers variety.

My current dining room table has the best light and most comfortable seating so that's where the magic happens. A large piece of cardboard is usually laid down to protect our $400 Craigslist table top.

I love soldering. I was trained in the USAF and have kept up the skill.

One of my favorite soldering projects are Strats. I rout all the grounds to the volume pot so that they look like one side of a set of headers.

I line up the ground coming from the back cavity along side the other 3 grounds. You know... headers.

Let em see if I have a pic. I'm sure I've taken at least one.
