I picked up a tenor saxaphone this weekend with the intention of learning to play it. Never held one or even seen one up close prior to Saturday. I'm using YT videos for lessons. Anyone have any success doing this? Tips for a serious beginner?

My hunnie has always wanted to learn to play the sax, so this past Christmas I bought her a tenor. She takes weekly lessons and is really enjoying it.

Talk to some musical folks (whose opinions you trust) about recommendations for a good instructor for adults. I mention this because adults learn differently from adolescents.

Lessons, even if it's five or ten times, will get you jump started and you'll progress faster as a self-learner because you won't form bad habits with the basics of technique.

Good points. My wife did a secret recording of me making some rudimentary sounds last night. Basically sounded just like what littleuch posted. Honk, HONK, hoNK, Squeak!
