Funny but I saw Greg Koch playing though a Koch amp. It sounded great and he liked it. Has lots of useful features.

discontinue use.

The Supros have suffered from QC issues...not the most reliable amps.

If you're into that vintagey look on a modern amp, check out Tone King.

Check the Koch line up and you'll see that Greg has a signature model.

He talks about Koch here:

009: At what point in the video do they talk about Koch amps?

The first thing that I noticed was the video is almost a half an hour long. That would normally be enough for me to bail out.
So I fast forwarded through it, and didn't see any pictures of any amps or a demo of this one.
The only view that I saw was the same camera shot that the video started with.

A Google search will turn up several videos, some of them reasonably short, where they show what it sounds like.

Koch Jupiter Junior: It looks to be around $500.
It has two 12AX7s, appearing to drive a solid state power amp. One of the tubes may be used to emulate a tube power section. It appears to have a digital reverb.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of that. But there are a lot of amps that are in the same gene pool.

But it is kind of a snazzy looking beast, I'll give you that.

That Supro Blues King looks excellent ! It seems like a very versatile amp with some really good features.

Koch Jupiter (full size) got a very good review a while back for a hybrid amp (personally I'd prefer solid state into a valve power stage but there you go).

Sorry - I've traduced Koch. It appears to be a 12ax7 preamp; 12ax7 in high voltage mode as the first stage of the power amp and solid state power amp (if I've picked it up correctly). So best of both worlds?

No, this vid is not any sort of equipment demo at all. He didn't even talk about his Reverend Signature guitar he was holding the entire time. This "12 Questions" is more a human interest thing Rev has going on... Rick Vito was interviewed sometime before Greg; there are others.

Anyway, Greg begins talking about how he hooked up with Koch amps at about 14:07 min. into the video, and describes the features he wanted (and apparently got) on his signature amp, about 16:01-17:17 min. After this he talks about his pedal.... He concludes with advice on how to live as and truly succeed as a guitar player.

No hard sell stuff here -- amps nor guitars. A lot of guys do like, or are at least interested in, Reverend and Greg Koch (well, I thought so, based on the recent Greg Koch thread here a few days ago). I only thought knowing the geneses and basic features of the Greg Kock amp would be interesting; I enjoy stories of serendipity. If someone was familiar with the Koch line-up, then he might perceive what & why Greg asked for the features he wanted. Anyway, I found it all interesting.

Wow... $2700 at Wildwood Guitars, and Out of Stock...!

I've had a Supro 1600 Supreme for a couple years now with no issues. I don't play it a lot because I just have too many amps. I really need to cull the herd! The Supreme is a great pedal platform.

The continuously variable attenuators on the Koch seems very useful.

I have to admit that I’m leaning more and more toward SS for this amp, the PRRI has the tube thing.

I don’t want all the modeling effects of the Katana type, but two foot switchable channels with a good Grungy drive .

I tried a Supro Blues King at the shop down the street a few weeks back. Nice amp. I thought it was sort like a cross between a tweed and blackface style amp. Not as much chime as I normally go for, but that's just me.

My friend who works at the store thought it was interesting that Supro used the word "blues" in naming the amp. It's got a lot more going on than that. We figured maybe Supro was chasing the Blues Junior market. The Blues King is a bit more expensive, but not much—and, IMO, it's a much better amp

Choosing between these two amps, I'd go with the Koch. I like the features more, the fact that it has 3 channels, giving you the opportunity to have a clean, a crunchy rhythm without using pedals, plus a channel for solos. The dimmer control is a big plus IMO.
It's cheaper, and it doesn't mention "fact melting levels of distortion", something I don't really need.
Con: Why they don't include the footswitch, that's kind of crazy IMO. I did a quick search, and couldn't even find one. I'd look for a used one with the footswitch.

walshb: "Choosing between these two amps, I'd go with the Koch. ........ It's cheaper,......"

You either mis-typed or got something else wrong, or I screwed up (impossible).

My search shows:
Supro Blues King around $600 new
Koch Jupiter Junior around $750 new

And just so there is no confusion, the amp in 009's post is the Greg Koch Signature, which is a completely different amp, and is $2700 (as he stated).

"The Jupiter Jr is 499 new"

Same price I saw, in more than one location. There is also a 45W version though, that I'm sure is higher priced.

Everyone needs that small 1x12 combo that's a Fire Breather. If I didn't have two amps that fit that parameter, I'd be looking hard at that Supro Blues King 12.
