Leftee and I were texting recently and I mentioned that I planned to give the Streamliner an overhaul this winter. Welp, I was playing it at church practice this morning and the switch went flaky, so I switched to my backup.

I'm not really crazy about the pups in it. They're hot and kinda grainy even at low gain. Also, the pots are scratchy and the chrome is cheap. Since the guitar is a good platform, I'm going to gut it and start from scratch...Lollar pups, nickel hardware, and quality electronics.

Is there an aftermarket tailpiece for these?

I'll have to check. I'm thinking Gretsch must have has a higher quality version. At least I'd hope so.

So I see this model sports the "Broad'Tron" pickups. I assume these are different than what's in the 5420 series (Blacktops?)?.

Correct. They are more humbuckery. They have more bottom end than a Filtertron.

It's hard to find specs but I've read they're hot. They're too grainy for my tastes.

If irritation occurs

discontinue use.

This is how a lot of planned guitar projects actually get started: Murphy shows up and speeds up the schedule.

I'm a huge fan of the standard-power TV Jones Filtertrons (Classic model). They can pretty much do everything from clean wooly jazz, to twangy hillbilly hayseed, to heavy stooge rock and everything in between.

Since the existing pups are bucker-sized, I'm looking at the LollarTron Humbuckers.

I really have no clue when it comes to Gretsch-style pickups.

That was the *first* thing I noticed...

and I says to myself: "Whoooa!"
