Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission describes the Burmese python, native to Asia, as "an invasive species which negatively impacts native wildlife in and around the Everglades ecosystem in south Florida."

Since the Python Elimination Program began, more than 2,500 pythons have been sent to the great beyond under its authorization. In fact, it's proved so effective the SFWMD is petitioning to add $750,000 to the program's funding.

Python removal agents will be paid:

A minimum wage hourly rate up to 10 hours daily. Time spent searching for pythons on SFWMD lands must be verified by a GPS tracking app installed on each python removal agent's iOS or Android mobile device.

An additional incentive payment of $50 for each python measuring up to 4 feet plus an extra $25 for each foot measured above 4 feet. In the example below, an 8-foot python would pay out $150.
An additional $200 for each eliminated python found guarding "nests" with eggs.

That ought to do it. A bunch of southern Florida swamp boys, Miccosukee and Seminoles, the problem could be wrapped up. Nothing says extinction like a bunch of locals with firearms.

CO2 ... is there anything it can't do?

I think they've been doing this for many years -- I recall watching a couple of TV shows documenting the process. According to the wildlife management folks that were interviewed, a bounty on these animals may control the population but will not eradicate them. They are here to stay until the food runs out.

If they learn how to eat rednecks sloshing through the Everglades with shotguns, we're in deep doodoo.
