"Help, I'm a a rock": Amelia Earhart

I came across a phrase in a novel that seemed a good description of life and our place in it:

"Life is such a funny thing. So arbitrary -seeming, but sometimes you just can't help but think that there really is a grand plan. In a way, it's like square dancing, how you can see the pattern fully only by looking at it from above, by not being part of it."

I like that, however, I prefer to think of my life more like an elaborate Busby Berkeley movie scene.

Now, Gato, that's downright theological!

It makes sense but let's do it anyway...

Very cool.

I had a similar observation many years ago when I lived on the highway commuting...

Right after a rain storm, when the highway is wet, but the rain has stopped, from a driving perspective it seems that the rain continues since the splash from the wet road makes it seem nothing has changed. But 5-10 feet above the road it can be clear and sunny. Like life sometimes...

"In a way, it's like square dancing."

That's okay, but let's not get too carried away.

If my waking life contained nothing but a Turkey in the Straw soundtrack, I think I'd go a bit wackaloon nutso :o)

Doh! See dough?

There ain't no plan that I can see. I think it's about as organized a thing as a bucket of marbles tumbling down a flight of stairs.

I think it's human nature for most people to want some grand plan to be unfolding. It's comforting in a world fraught with risks and uncertainty.

I was reminded of this earlier today when I heard a news story about an auto accident, and the reporter stated, "Thankfully--nobody was seriously injured."

That always strikes me as curious indeed, because when people are seriously injured (or worse), nobody describes it as unthankful in nature.

"In other news, the Big Chicken in Marietta Georgia fell over today. Thanklessly, three people were seriously injured."

Yeah, I like that, and the opposite is also true. We seldom think about the beautiful patterns of the snow flake while shoveling off the driveway.

HAR! True!

When you're sweating your bag off, it's difficult to appreciate the beauty in little things.
