Greetings,
There's a really good Country documentary by Ken Burns on PBS now, part 3 is on tonight. This is a multi-episode thing that starts in the 1920s with Jimmy Rogers and the Carter Family and chronicles the history of CM from then til now. Before rock and roll arrived CM ruled the airwaves in the US, I learned this from this film.

It is very informative and worth every musicians time to watch it. If you're anything like me, you won't be able to stop watching it.

It has been a great series and I think that if you moved this thread to the Miscellaneous forum, it would get a lot more attention.
It's a trip learning the history and also the instruments used, including their origin and use in the music.
A really great story, plus I didn't know much about how powerful and popular country music was and how much and how many people actually had recorded their songs.
It is one of those 'Wow' moments! Thanks for sharing, Woody

Caught part of episode #2 last night.

Got a kick out of Merle Haggard's anecdote about standing on the seat of his bicycle at 12 years old to see Bob Wills playing through the Beardsley Ballroom window.

Also the one about Maybelle Carter and the girls getting bumped from a Life Magazine cover story by the Pearl Harbor attack.

Well.... it just started. Tonight will cover Hank Williams and the emergence of electric guitars, juke boxes and honky-tonk music.
