I had a red head Maz Jr with a couple different Avatar cabs back in the day. About the only thing I can say negative about it is the reverb wasn't extraordinary to this Fender junkie. I was a full fledged FDPing GAShole already and moved onto the next obsession and got rid of it. But it really was one of those amps that could have been a lifer. Loud and proud and nary a stink on the dial.

I’ve been prowling “EF86” amps for a few months. At some point there will be a Leftee specimen.

Eww - that doesn’t sound right.

No help here. I think Zs are great. I bought a Z28 because I prefer 6V6s. It has an EF86 in V1, only 3 knobs (volume, bass and treble), and the tone controls interact with the gain structure when they are past 12:00.

Did I mention that I have a MAZ 18 JR NR?

Oh yeah.

And it's red.

Y'all aren't helping.

Piney, I would likely get the non-reverb. I've never been much of a fan of amp reverb.

I checked out some clips of the MKII's. The only thing that keeps me from getting GAS for one is the price tag. It's not that I couldn't afford one, but it certainly would not be prudent.

I have heard the NR sounds better than
the reverb model. But for me an amp without reverb is like a guitar with 5 strings.

I played directly across from someone years ago, at an FDP jam, who was playing through one. It was very loud, and very bright. I think it's more like a 50W amp. I think I was even playing through my Chubster at the time, if that helps. Lol

Ok, I tried.

Bill, I believe that was Steve and he had hearing loss, so he cranked the trebles. I was also a victim of the icepicks.

Creamback...got it!

Only you can talk yourself out of it.

And you have to try it for a while before you're even qualified to render an experienced opinion :o)

You know what you have to do.

"Bill, I believe that was Steve...."

No, Steve is off the hook. The jam I'm talking about wasn't in Ohio. Anyway, good luck with your decision!

In the immortal words of someone.....If you dont get one while you're alive how the hell are you going to get one when you're dead?

I've always tried to reason with myself....You really don't need that. But in all honesty we don't need most of the nicer stuff any of us have. We really don't need..

I tend to believe a really nice Doc Z amp will improve your home.

This is a timely thread. I too have no valid reason in the world to buy another tube amp. I have so many great ones already. But I've also been Jonesin for a Z amp, 18 or 38, head or combo.

Can't stop watching You Tube vids of Z amp demos. I've bought myself a little time buy opening up my SS 22 combo and clipping the bright cap. Amp takes pedals so much better now thru the clean channel. The Z amp was finally off my mind until I read this thread.

Argh!

Thanks for refueling the GAS, Dan.

I've had a recent issue with carpal tunnel so I've been unable to ride for a couple of months. I've actually been contemplating selling the bike and getting a nice Z MII.

I'm scaring myself.
