FDP Forum / Amp Mods, Repairs, and Projects / slowing Vibrato speed (Blackface amps) - deep dive

Oct 17th, 2019 09:44 PM   Edit   Profile

hi all.

I'm trying to slow the vibrato on my 1965 Bandmaster.

I've tried the commonly recommended suggestion of replacing the 0.01uf with 0.02 … still not slow enough.

Before I try to do crazy things like shoehorning 0.047uf caps into the circuit, I think I need a better idea of what each of the three caps do, and what may happen when values are changed.

Can anyone help me with a deep dive of what these three caps actually do?

in this vid you can hear what different combinations do.

0.022 / 0.01 / 0.01 (stock)
0.022 / 0.022 / 0.01
0.032 / 0.022 / 0.01

I'd just go fishing starting with three .022 caps.
I don't think a .01 is mandatory. Could be wrong, if that's the case, someone please correct me.....Peter?
I am surprised the usual mod is not slow enough for you.
What's your goal?

I don't think it's essential for one of the caps to be 0.01uF.
There's a good idea for deeper, more intense trem over on the Hoffman forum, see link
