Someone made a reference to the "Blues Jr. mafia" in another thread and I thought it was pretty funny. But it also makes some sense.

So who are the BJ users here? And what do you have: tweed, blonde, black? Is she strictly for practice or gigging or both? And what mods?

I have a tweed and the only mod so far is swapping out the stock eminence speaker with a 1964 Jensen C12Q. I plan to change the tubes, power with Tesla's EL84s and pre with EI 12AX7s. I use her for practice and will use her to gig (when I have a new band). I love this amp. Real sweet.

Stock Black. Practice and jams. No mods...yet. Just got it today! And I love it so far. And I'm from New Jersey, so I'm definitely in, right?

Gotta give credit where it's due. Arlech made the first reference I've seen to "Blues Jr. Mafia."

Tweed with a Greenback speaker. Currently got a set of Groove Tubes that I like OK. I just practise and jam with my sons.

I bought one about a month ago. Its standard black tolex, with the stock speaker. Its my first amp so I can't compare it with others, but i really enjoy it.

I've got a Tweed one. I use this amp all the time for demo's here in Nashville as well as the occasional small club gig. I produced an album last year for songwriter Danny Flowers who wrote the song "Tulsa Time"( yes, the one Clapton cut). Check out the great review in VG magazine last month. Anyway, 90% of the guitar stuff on that record was my Blue's Jr.

Black and stock, use it for mostly practice and jams with friends. For the occasional gig I use my DRRI. But yes, I do love my Blues jr and would not be the same without it.

I'm not a member of this exclusive club, but as the guilty party who coined the phrase in question, I have to admit I've periodically toyed with the idea of getting one. And I still might. But I've already given in to GAS so much this past year that I can't justify the expenditure at this time...at least not for a few months anyway... ;-)

Black w/newer Kendrick Blackframe, no reverb hiss. Heard about a little trick to improve the 'verb by placing a layer of cardboard under the tank and then reattaching it. Anyone tried this? How much improvement?

Yep. Black, stock, NO reverb hiss (even at 12), and sweeeeeet.

Used mainly for practising, jamming, and pissing off the neighbours ;o)

i have a ī95 tweed, changed the speaker to a celestion vintage 30 - makes for a LOUD amp. have gigged it only once, but i would take it to smaller venues where volume is not an issue - or better yet - where HIGH volume IS an issue.
i recently discovered that it makes a great "crunchy" amp with a lespaul (think neil young and his tweed-deluxe)!
itīs a fine amp and i plan to keep it.
cheers - C.

oh,
iīd like to add, that i think the original speaker sounds great at low volume/clean, but i felt it didnīt cut it in a full-band situation...not in my band, that is ;)
and my reverb doesnīt hiss, too.
cheers - C.

I've had a blond one for several months now, currently stock, and has the hiss unfortunately. I still love it, I think it is a great home amp.

Lacquered Tweed BJ owner here. Using NOS Zeith preamp tubes, Groove Tube Power Tubes and a Weber C12NS speaker. Morley Remote Footswitch for the FAT feature and no reverb hiss. Love this little amp. I'm a home player and jam with friends on occassion. With the Weber, this amp has a nice Voxish chime going for it now.

I'm in!!
It's just a black one, Sylvania EL-84's, original Sovtek 12ax7, GE 12au7, RCA 12ay7 (left to right),I made these mods for blowing harp. Gig and practice with it, sounds even better when mic'ed thru the PA. Great amp, would only trade it for a tweed one or maybe a Princeton reverb.

Black Tolex, Stock. Reverb his but otherwise very quiet and sounds great. Looking forward to tweaking at some point. Great practice amp.
