Hi, I purchased an early 60s Musicmaster about a year ago, And I was just trying to put it all together and figure out how it got what it looks like now and what it looked like out of the factory,
It is Black (I do believe it is a good repaint job, no evidence of the original colour under the scratch plate) It has a plastic white/cream scratch plate on top of a metal plate that has all the original tape the wires are stuck down with. I do love it’s look but I am sure the early 60’s slab MusicMasters didn’t have these colours, SN:58727

Sorry, I hope my link works, I’m new to the Forum |

That does not look like original tape holding the wires to the guard. It should have jagged edges. |

I'm not convinced the pickup or the pots are original either... |

Noooo, I thought it was all-original!!!!! Hahaha
Any idea how to find out what pickup is used? it still sounds very old.
It’s a great little playing guitar and out of all my others I seem to play it the most.
|

Here's a photo that shows my '62 Musicmaster (3/4 size). It's original other than the previous owner took off the neck plate and put a plain brass one on (you can't see it and I don't know why he did it).

Not the best photo but you can see the 3 color sunburst well. Even at 3/4 size it's fun to play and my only chance to own a pre CBS Fender. |

buster h:
Yes I do, a previous owner even wrote "flower child" and drew a flower (small area) in black marker on it. I even have the bridge cover, just the neckplate is missing. I bought it in the mid-late 80's at a local guitar shop for $250.

Lambo sorry for the hijack |

Lambo,
I took the time to remove my pickguard and take the attached photo. I'll let you be the judge on the pickup but the pots and cap look changed. I think you can see the Astron cap and my pots date to the 14th week of '61 (neck date May of '62). Numbers on the side. Do your pots have wiring on the terminals I show bare in the photo? And there is the tape mentioned above, it looks like you have a small piece on your pickguard. Do you have a small bare wire clamped by the bridge sticking out to engage the aluminum shield?

48 year old tape, I ain't touchin' that. |
