Being of the geezerly persuasion I get back problems every now and them. I'm sure the weight of a P bass doesn't help matters.<br /> <br /> Looking for a lighter weight bass but I don't like skinny thin necks like the Hofners or Danelectros. I want a beefy P style neck but on a very light body. Any such thing? Don't care about neck dive and not too concerned about tone. I know how to get reasonably close to the tone I like on any bass. |

The road worns seem to be pretty light weight. And they have great C width "broken in" necks. |

Have you considered mating a favorite P neck with a new body? For example, Warmoth’s Showcase currently features a swamp ash P body at 4 lbs, 12 oz and an alder P body at 4 lbs, 8 oz. |

I just built a custom Stingray body for a guy who brought in a Lakeland 5-string neck. The bass came out awesome but weighs a ton and a half from the one-piece ash body. I have a project in mind to build a Fender or Musicman style bass but with telecaster thinline construction. However there is the issue of loss of mass and things could go south and the awesome factor could be lost in sawdust. |

Ebay seller The Stratosphere lists the weights of the bodies. It took some patience, but I found a very light MIJ P body there. |

I've got a P neck on a very light Silvertone P body. I got two of those bodies in a package purchase off Ebay. I built a Music Man knockoff (5 string) with the other body. <br /> <br /> The heavy neck on a light body isn't a problem as long as I use a strap that isn't too slippery. The lightweight is a real blessing. |

I recently put together another P-bass. I used paulownia wood. It is real light like balsa wood. It's a relative of Philippine mahogany. I got it through the Guitar Mill. The body can't weight 3.5 lbs. I do have to use an Axe Balancer and a suede strap.<br /> <br /> I do like narrow necks. All my basses have "A" necks. |

You can get what you want ready made by Fender. I think it was called the Precision A/E.<br /> <br /> Found a pic. Bob posted here in the ancient days. |
