I need to have quick access to my slide on some songs and have been looking into ways of holding the slide. I see some guys use various devices that they attach to the headstock (not always permitting easy storage in its case i suspect). I like the idea of some type of device that would attache to my strap for ease of access. (Yes I've seen the Levy's straps, but need something that I can retro fit to any of my existing straps.

Any suggestions?

One of the guys in my band uses one that attaches to his mic stand.

mic stand for sure. Dunlop makes a combo pick holder with slide holder if you sing. Just be sure to click the links above for buying one online if you decide to get one.

they make one that is like a ring
so you can fip it in place as you need it and then flip it back. Sopposedly it does not interfere with rgular playing but you dont have to leave the fretboard to grab one.
$20

I tried that and didn't like it. It never seemed to be in the right position when I when flip it around. And it DID get in the way of my regular playing...YMMV.

There are however some other kinds that are more like large finger rings. I've been meaning to try those. They come if varying sizes that fit your fingers better.

I don't know if this will work on the guitar you have, but Iv'e got it to work on a couple of my guitars(Strat, L.P.) First, take a peice of Velcro and stick it on the upper flat surface of the LOWER bout of the guitar,--next cut a strip of the other part of the Velcro the same length as your slide and 1/2" wide -stick that on your slide. Your set, now when you need your slide it is right there just insert your finger with your palm up- that way the Velcro will always be on the back, or top of the slide and won't interfere with your playing, after your'e done playing your dazzleing slide riffs, simply turn your palm up and press the slide down on the pad --you don't have to press hard to make it stay-- then pull your finger out and your ready to start playing chords again in less than a second. Iv'e been doing this for about 3 years and it works really good- 'specialy with the Strat.I keep the slide in my left front pants pocket until I know I'll be using it soon, then I'll reach in and park it right there on the Velcro so It's ready. Also my slide is 2" long and fits pretty snug.

The Barile Slide Holder, which unfortunately isn`t made any more, was made to attach to your strap like a belt through the loops on your pants. You`d slide your finger in and pull up to release and use the slide, then simply snap it back into the holder, which was perfectly situated on the strap. There was a guy on ebay selling some off about 3 years ago when I snatched a few more up, his ebay id was stew690. You might get lucky searching for him, I`ve also had some luck attaching different sized broom brackets (wall) onto guitar straps that work well with steel or brass OD slides..... Search Youtube for "Too Many Pills For Elvis" and select the song "Stormy Monday". I`m using on of his holders to access my slide on the 2nd solo, and it really is the most accessible solution.(pardon the audio quality on the flip-video!)

I use this little extra bit of material in my pants to hold slides and othervstuff. It's accessed through a hole in the pants just on the side of my leg, right below the hip. It's convenient and quick. I'm sure it will catch on.
