This was a Weber 5F6A kit and I bought it used several years ago and it slowly developed this issue. This has been driving me crazy and I love the tone of this amp which is the upgraded model with Mercury Magnetics and Weber 10A125 speakers. The intermittent static can be heard when hitting a chord or just the low E string. I have re-soldered all connections from the Normal input jacks to the V1 tube. I even replaced the caps C1, C4 and C5 just for grins. I have replaced the tube in V1 multiple times with no improvement and even cleaned the pins with a non residue contact cleaner and used toothpicks. The tube sockets are porcelain and impossible to get inside and adjust the tension which seems very tight still.

If I plug into the bright input jacks it sounds perfect all the time. Your suggestions please.

I forgot to mention that moving the volume pot for the normal channel does not cause any static noise.

Seeing as the trouble is only in one channel that more or less localizes it to a relatively small part of the circuit. Start from one end and work your way to the other.

Did you by chance use carbon comp resistors when you built it? That could be a source of noise.

The Weber kits use metal film resistors with long leads for fiber eyelet boards. I'll order some more 1M, 68K, and 100K resistors and replace one at a time. The resistors are all that's left to replace. Probably order a 50KL bias pot too. Thanks for your input.

Any other input is highly appreciated.

Since it's JUST those jacks, I assume you HAVE considered just replacing te jacks or cleaning the corrosion from them

@JBLTwin you're right. Have heard Weber OEM jacks are not the best.

The jacks are Neutrik and I ordered two more plus a couple each of the 1M, 68K and 100K metal film resistors, Plus I added in a 50K bias pot. If replacing the two jacks cures the problem then CJ at Weber said he would refund the cost of the jacks.
