too many guitars and not enough hands
Feb 25th, 2016 08:52 PM

Well its been over a week now and I've had time to really dig in and give each guitar a workout.

I'll keep the reviews short

How it sounds
Martin D35 - Tone monster clear defined notes both in single note lines and chords. extremely balanced tonally up and down the neck. The sound just explodes out of this guitar

How it looks
Finish is nice nicely matched top, no bear claw slight silking in finish. The back photos don't show it but has enough contrast in colour between the centre and outer wedges darker chocolate colour. neck has extremely nice carve.

Minor issues was the finish was still a little soft the stitching on my leather couch left marks on the finish which I could buff out with a bit of elbow grease and hot breath. now if I lean it up strings face down.

Larrivee 00-50
How it sounds
Smaller bodied mahogany back, woody tone yet plenty of volume. single notes well defined and balanced during chords more of a mid range voice still a bit of punch if you dig in.

neck carve is nice just not used to overall guitar size but enjoying it.

How it looks
The top is nice again no bear claw some silking, the purfling and rosette look really nice and the tortoise guard sets it off

The back is perfect no flaws,

Now the minor issues the neck binding is maple and looks nice except for the one inch long 1/16 wide darker grain line right on top binding near the 9th fret I see it every time I play. getting used to it now but would have been nice if it wasn't there.

There is some minor finish issues sinking in to the grain on the top near back near the bass string all the the way to the back edge its about 1/2 inch wide. no biggie and the only way you'll notice it is if you feel it.

Other than that everything is spot on.
Both guitars look excellent. The mahogany on that 00-50 is exquisite - makes me gas and drool for the all mahogany L-05 I have on order...

Two different critters, but lots of nice tones from each one! Enjoy!
