Picking up a used one tomorrow, I always wanted to try a hard tail Strat and this will be my chance. Found it on a local site at a good price, supposedly in great shape. Gonna bring a small practice amp to test the sound though.
Don't they have a chunkier neck? Who's got one and whaddaya think of it?

From my observations there are many happy Cray Stat owners. I've almost pulled the trigger a number of times while shopping online. Overall I like the specs, especially the neck. The 61 C shape is supposedly on the beefy side but not over the top.

I would prefer that the bridge pup had tone control, but that's a fairly minor mod. The pups themselves seem to be very well liked.

There have been many Cray Strat threads over the years. You might consider a search. FDPer Electron has (or had) a beautiful sunburst Cray. Perhaps he may chime in.

Please report back after checking that one out.

I think Electron's was the blueish-purple one. Maybe? I seem to recall looking at it a few times. I could be wrong...

"The 61 C shape is supposedly on the beefy side but not over the top."

Beefy is good! My favorite neck is the 50's profile on my LP.

"I would prefer that the bridge pup had tone control, but that's a fairly minor mod."

Me too! But yeah, I'm sure I can handle the mod if necessary.

I did try a search, but only for the last year. There wasn't much, I guess I can go back farther.
Thanks for the info!

Got the guitar today, a nice easy transaction. I brought along a Mustang Mini to try it out, and it has plenty of quack like a RC Strat should.
Near mint condition, very minor fret wear, and it's already set up very well.
I think I got a sweat deal!

Excellent! Report back once you've given it a few workouts. What color is it? Pics? :-)

stratcowboy - Electron's was a 2T sunburst. I checked it out dozens of times (photo, not in person).

That was fast. Inca Silver, nice. Looks almost brand new. Hope it's a keeper.

I would call it "mint" except for one small ding in the middle/back of the guitar, and some very minor fret wear.
Action is a little too low, strings are fretting out when I do extreme bends. It felt a little too low anyway, so I'm gonna set it up like my #1 Strat.
Seems to be a keeper, so far!

Nice guitar, walshb. I have one and now love it. When I first got it kept on going out of tune because the neck kept on moving. I did countless 1/8 to 1/4" truss rod turns over a number of weeks and the damn thing still wouldn't settle. Eventually I took a risk and did three full turns and the neck came in perfect. It hasn't moved since and tuning is rock solid. The other problem it had was the tip end of the jack was to close to the wall of the cavity due to the jack plate not positioned correctly causing the plug to not connect properly and easily falling out. I eventually rotated the jack at an angle relative to the wall of the cavity so the cable would stay in. It takes a bit of pressure to inset the cable and it doesn't pull out easily but it's a solid contact.

In hindsight I'd wished I'd ordered Inca Silver. Violet is OK but is more blue than internet photos indicated. I've been tempted to order another one for a long time and use my current one as a hack guitar.

Anyway... after a long period I did bond with it. The neck is awesome, great tones too. Love the body contours as well, nice and deep.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you had! Wow, that's a lot of turns on the truss rod, sounds like it never got tightened up at the factory...?
Not sure I understand the jack plate thing, but glad you got it figured out!!
I'm actually not all that crazy about the Inca Silver, hoping it'll grow on me. But the QUACK is amazing, even in gain mode on my Marshall. Gonna have to compare it to my #1 which has Fat50's, it's got some good quack but I don't think as much.
I had to raise the action at least one full turn on all the saddles, then readjust pickup height, but now it plays great!
Love the neck contour also.

Great color. Is that a mint green guard? Or parchment? I think these came OEM with parchment guards.4

Looks really peachy. Second-hand guitars are great because you know they won't surprise you with stuff like the neck going all water-ski.

Great score!

I had an American Standard in Inca silver years back. The color grew on me, wasn't crazy about it at first.

Getting a Cray strat was the best move I ever made. All I changed was moving the mid tone control to the bridge pickup, and have the other pickups share the neck control.

:)

Here's another pic:
http://i.imgur.com/zB6KF7t.jpg
:)
