My PRRI is going belly up. i think it's a bad power tube. so last night at practice my amp got nasty and i used the other guitar players Twin-Reverb. it's a few years old, an RI. <br /> man does that amp ever sound great! big fat tone, clean with character. i was very impressed. <br /> <br /> it's a little to big for my liking, to carry around and so on. so i don't think i'd buy one. but i really have to say it was a great sounding amp! |

Yeah the Twin RI's sure are powerful amps. 85 watts of tube power goes a long way.<br /> <br /> I haven't dragged mine around either because of the weight. But I shouldn't complain because now I am buying a Mustang V with a 4x12 cab! |

Not only can you hear a TR, but hit that low e string and you can feel it.<br /> <br /> I love Twin reverbs. Too bad they're so damn heavy. |

I have always wanted the TR tone, but not the size and weight of one. That's why I liked my PRII. It was the closest I could get to a TR sound in a small package. After 20 years of faithful service my PRII became unreliable, so I started looking for a replacement. I came up with something the same size and weight but much better. I had a custom PR kit built for me with a bigger transformer and 6L6 tubes. So it's about 30 watts, simple (compared to the PRII) hand wired circuit, copper cap rectifier for even a little more punch, 12" speaker and a pine cab.<br /> I love this little amp. Never heard a small amp sound as much like a big TR as this one does. |

"how's the tone of the Mustang VS the Twin?"<br /> <br /> I love the Mustang III tones. I can get whatever I what from that amp with power to spare. And although I love my Twin Reverb RI my Mustang III never lets me down. I now own a Mustang V head and I am waiting for the 4x12 cab to arrive.<br /> <br /> It's no doubt I love tube amps. I am a tube snob without a doubt. But I can't deny that I love the Mustang's tones. The thing are with these amps are that you have to sit down and spend some time to set them up if you play single coil and humbucker equipped guitars because humbuckers will overload the inputs of digital amps a lot easier and sound dirty on clean amp settings without lower gain setup. That is the trick.<br /> <br /> Just sit down and for example plug in your Strat or Tele and pick out your favorite tones and store them in memory. Then plug in your humbucker equipped guitars and store another extra set of tones with the humbuckers. Now just label them with a abbreviation like "HB" for humbuckers or "SC" for single coils after you name the presets to remember what each preset is for. I have all my single coil and humbucker tones seperated.<br /> <br /> I personally have about 6 main tones....57 Deluxe, 65 Deluxe, Twin Reverb,Vox Clean, and a Super Sonic or Marshall. I will dial in these tones with my Strat or Tele. Then I will plug in My Les Paul and 335 and set up another 6 equal tones and turn the gain back compensating for humbuckers.<br /> <br /> Then I will set up any effects I want for my 12 presets and save them. Them I will turn them all off and save them again. Now they are stored in memory so when I engage my effects they will be as I set them with my dry tones.<br /> <br /> This is especially great with the Mustang 4 button switch because you can set the switch to turn on/off up to three effects choices or engage them all at once.<br /> <br /> The Mustang amps are great because the built in effects are really good and the amp tones are also great. They are the least "gimmicky" digital amps I have used.<br /> <br /> Sorry...we are talking about the Twin were we not? Great amp but I have it for safe keeping and using my Mustang amps as long as they do the job and protect my tube amps. |

I love my 73 twin. Big full clean sound. I liked it better than the RI. But it weighs a lot. <br /> <br /> I concur with telegib on the mustang, and I am a tube snob too. I can get a pretty good 65 twin ri sound on the Mustang. I like my real twin's sound a bit better, but I like the Mustang III''s weight. |

the speaker in the MIII is going to sound bigger and fuller than my MI. i use my Mustang for home practice and quick recording of ideas. that is a real nice feature. recording new ideas is too easy with this amp!<br /> the tones are great too. |

Between the Deluxe RI and the Twin RI I would take the Twin. Big fat clean tone.It's worth the weight.<br /> <br /> Imagine hooking that Twin to a 4x12 cab! |

It transformed my Epiphone Casino into a glorious perfect instrument by punching and clarifying the E, A, and D strings.....WHAM!<br /> <br /> I have a Twin Reverb Reissue from a few years ago... I think maybe 2008.<br /> <br /> |

You should try conneting your TRRI up to a Dual Showman with 15" JBLs. It will sound twice as good. Or just buy a Dual Showman (65 with the orig small bottom) like I did. I now have two nut busters, but the sound is to die for. |

Oddly enough they sounded a bit like JBLs--clear and transparent.<br /> <br /> The swap may have taken off 4 lbs.<br /> <br /> I sold it because I never could crank it over 4 and it was more powerful than my '68 Bassman.<br /> |
