Good news - I'm down to just needing a cane to walk! It's so much more dignified than the crutches. It helps that I smell good and am impeccably clean shaven, but that's for a different thread ;-)

FTR, it's been seven and a half weeks since the surgery to screw my tibial plateau back together. That's the lower weight bearing part of the knee. For the first six, I could put no weight on my leg at all. Just stretches and various exercises. I was on two crutches.

In the last ten days I've transitioned to weight-bearing, all under the supervision of my Physical Therapists. In stages I've gone from two crutches, to one and now just the cane.

Physcal Therapy has gotten intense and it's paying off. We are working on me being able to go up steps unassisted. It's brutal but I'm pushing it and steadily improving.

In a few weeks I see the shoulder doc. Once I'm walking unassisted they'll operate on it. That will be a drawn-out ordeal, but I'm ready to get on with it. I can barely use that arm and it hurts like heck when I move it wrong.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying sporting a cane! A Bowler hat and tweed jacket may be in my future. |

Glad to hear it. Do you plan to ride again? |
| WireDog Contributing Member ******** aka BailingWire andDuctTapeDog |
Yes, I'll ride again. I have to get back on the horse that threw me, so to speak. Plus, I don't want to lose face with the friends I have. That means a lot to me, silly as it may sound to some.

And next time, I'll observe the two second following distance. |

"This town has center turn lanes for people to get into when they are going to make a left. They also are used as an acceleration / deceleration lane for merging into fast moving traffic. I've always hated them"

Man, they used to have those damn suicide lanes on the main two-lane in this town, but got rid of them some decades ago. Saw some close calls; hate 'em too.

Healing mojo. By the time you get around to needing a fake knee (if you do), the technology will be even better than it is now. |

Wow Dude! Sorry to hear but glad you are alive. Prayers for your surgery and fast full recovery.

"What happened to the idiot who caused the situation?"

Probably oblivious to it all and kept on driving away. |

I missed this the first time around. Glad to hear you're on the mend, WireDog, and as for getting back into the saddle, you gotta do what you gotta do.
|

I'm walking! Have been getting around using the cane less and less for several days. For the past two I've barely touched it. There is a limp and I need help on stairs but it's on a trajectory for a full comeback.

In another thread I've spoken of a little crime wave we're experiencing, and the knee has been getting a great workout as I patrol the grounds with my trusty dogs.

Now I hope they can get to work fixing my shoulder. It's in bad shape. |

Keep pushing, WD! You'll get there. |
